Places to go

Maussane les Alpilles :
This delightful village evokes the very essence of Provence. You can watch the world go by over a glass of rosé or savour Provençal cuisine at one of the many cafes and restaurants in the square by the fountain of Quatre Saisons.

Mouriès :
Surrounded by olive groves, this village is the centre of the French olive industry. Visit the local olive mills and savour the different blends.

Les Baux de Provence :
Classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Climb up to the Citadel perched on a limestone outcrop above the village, which is steeped in history.

Saint Rémy de Provence :
A very special place, with lots to see including site of the Greek/Roman city of Glanum. Vincent Van Gogh was voluntarily confined in the Hospital of St Paul de Mausole in 1899 and during this period of his life he painted two of his most notable works - Starry Night and Self-Portrait. Birthplace of Nostradamus the C16th physician.

Camargue :
The romance of this wild delta can be discovered on horseback or by boat to see the ubiquitous white horses, black bulls and flamingos. An hour’s drive via Arles with its impressive Roman arena and centre of Spanish bull-fighting.

Avignon :
Dominated by the massive grandeur of the Palais des Papes which stands as the symbol of the church’s influence in the western Christian world in the C14th largest Gothic palace in Europe . Also visit the famous St Benezet’s bridge. Festival d’Avignon is today one of the most important contemporary performing arts events in Europe held in July each year www.festival-avignon.com

Things to do

Walking : Right on our doorstep is the Parc Naturel Régional des Alpilles : www.parc-alpilles.fr- a wonderful area to walk in and crossed by the GR6 (Grande Randonée)
Markets : There is a market somewhere in Provence every day of the week. Maussane’s is on a Thursday.
Vineyards : Small domains dotted throughout the Alpilles invite you to taste their wines. The classic vineyards of Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape are an hour’s drive north.
Golf : Popular Servanes at Mouriès and the fabulous new course at Manville, Les Baux.
Horse riding : Stables closeby on the road to Mouriès.
